City Councillor St Francis and Stratford
With so many challenges facing our country and city over the next few years following the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, there has never been such a time when decisive action has been required to revive the local economy, protect public services and to urgently address the impact of climate change. I am convinced that the Labour Party will undoubtedly address the needs of the majority of the population more effectively than the current government, and therefore I feel privileged to be selected to represent the Labour Party in the St Francis and Stratford ward in the imminent the elections.
Professionally I have gained first-hand experience of working with a broad range of public services and fully appreciate how important effective governance at local and national level is to the well-being of all communities, and to the equality of opportunity for all groups and individuals. Through years of prioritising and planning improvement I know how important and powerful it is to harness the opinions and ideas of all stakeholders.
Our family have lived in Salisbury since 2000 and in the St Francis and Stratford Ward for thirteen years. I recently retired from a long teaching career during which I served as a primary school headteacher for a total of twenty years in London, Southampton and Salisbury and I am now looking for a new challenge. I can think of no better way of serving the local community and make further use my professional skills than to become a Salisbury and Wiltshire Councillor.
My wife currently teaches in a Salisbury primary school, my son is in his third year at Warwick University, and my daughter is applying for degree courses this year. I have taken on many of the domestic duties to support my family since I retired and I keep myself fit by playing golf and running. In 2019 I raised over £1000 for Cancer Research UK by completing the Brighton Marathon. I have a clear perspective of life in retirement in Salisbury, but my wife and children certainly provide a valuable insight into the current world of employment and full time education!
