This is unforgivable!

If we are serious as a nation about keeping the rise in our temperature below 1.5%, then we need to stop building new houses that ADD to that temperature rise. Some carbon neutral houses are built but ALL new houses should be carbon neutral.

In 2006, the then Labour Government introduced the ‘code of sustainability’, by which all new houses from 2016 had to be zero carbon.

In 2015, the coalition Government (Conservatives & Liberals Democrats), WITHDREW this requirement for new houses!

In the Salisbury area, including Harnham, 1000s of new houses have been built since 2016 which could have been zero carbon, with all the benefits that brings to all of us. This would mean cheaper heating bills (if any) for those new residents, especially important at a time of escalating energy bills.

The new development planned for land south of Netherhampton Road for 234 houses (WC planning application PL /2021/08735) should be carbon neutral.

 It is not!

We need quality new carbon neutral homes and we need to return to having 40% of new houses being affordable.
